June Film Theatre News

We were watching the National Movie Awards recently and couldn't help but notice that we had shown every film that picked up an award. In the category for the 'must-see' film event of the summer, the award was presented to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, which I am able to announce will be showing at Leiston Film Theatre from the UK release date of Friday 15th July - and in spectacular 3D.

This huge climax to the worldwide cinematic phenomenon is almost certain to be one of, if not the biggest movie event of the year and we at the Film Theatre are proud to boast that we have played all films in the Harry Potter series from the release dates - quite an achievement for a small independent cinema and much of that is thanks to the support we have received from our loyal customers. Screening times will be released shortly, but I can reveal that we intend to host a special midnight screening on Friday 15th July and that tickets will be bookable for all screenings from 10am on Friday 10th June.

I thoroughly recommend the romantic drama Water for Elephants (12A), which stars Twilight heart-throb Robert Pattinson as a veterinary student, who abandons his studies after the death of his parents and joins a travelling circus as their vet, where he meets and falls in love with a star performer, played by Reese Witherspoon. In a circus of a bygone era and set against the world of the Big Top, their relationship overcomes all odds - including the wrath of her charismatic but dangerous husband.

In The Hangover Part 2 (15), four friends travel to exotic Thailand for a wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, as featured in the first movie, they are taking no chances and have opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don't always go as planned and while what happened in Vegas may stay in Vegas, what happens in Bangkok can't even be imagined.

Critics seem to agree that the British sci-fi action adventure Attack The Block (15), is definitely worth a watch. Starring Nick frost, this fast, funny and frightening action adventure, pits a teen gang against an invasion of savage alien monsters, turning a London housing estate into a sci-fi playground, a tower block into a fortress under siege and teenage street kids into heroes.

June comes to a close with X-Men: First Class (12A) and our summer programme of big screen blockbusters gets under way with Kung-Fu Panda 2 (PG), showing in 3D for 7 days only from Friday 1st July.

Right, we're off to get our Hogwarts banners out for the last time. It'll be sad to see the Harry Potter films comes to a close, but word is that they've thrown everything at this final chapter - and to think, you'll be able to enjoy it at Leiston Film Theatre in spectacular 3D.
