What is the Leiston Film Theatre Support Club?

The Leiston Film Theatre Support Club is an independent group, founded on 28th November 1992 to raise funds, promote, support, encourage and develop the use of the Leiston Film Theatre, Suffolk's oldest purpose built cinema, which first opened it's doors on the 27th October 1914.

Through numerous fundraising activities and social events, the Club provides financial assistance towards the many improvements made at the venue. Our ‘Set the Stage’ project was launched in 2006 and completed in 2009. At a cost of nearly £33,000, this project has greatly enhanced the Film Theatre’s capability to stage quality live shows. The Club also raised funds in 2008/09 for improvements to the enlargement of the Film Theatre foyer, which was officially opened in April, with a plaque in memory of Peter Free, who was a much regarded former Film Theatre manager.

Aims of the Support Club

To help promote the uses that the Film Theatre may be hired for, such as: the showing of special interest films, private screenings, live bands, plays, conferences and other events.

To help improve facilities and interior décor. (The Town Council is responsible for the main fabric and exterior of the Film Theatre)

The Club has been formed to make all this possible through a programme of regular fundraising events.

To hold social events for Club members and their guests that provides vital promotion and fundraising for the Film Theatre in the process.

Membership

Membership of the Club is open to any person, on completion of a membership application form and paying the annual subscription fee, which is currently £4.00. Membership runs from 1st February to 31st January.

Club members are entitled to reduced admission to some Club events, regular bulletins on Club activities, including reports on fundraising and donations to Film Theatre projects, advance bookings for some Film Theatre live shows and invitations to attend exclusive social events for members and their guests.

As a valued member you will be helping to secure the vital future of the Leiston Film Theatre for the benefit of the local and surrounding community.
