September Film Theatre News

Sep 2014

As summer draws to a close and its back to school for the children, we at Leiston Film Theatre are carrying on the Centenary celebrations. After enjoying the wonderful success of our Cinema in the Park, which brought August to an end with a bang of colourful fireworks, we have been busy planning a jam packed September followed by celebrations by the dozen in October! But letís not give away any surprises for October just yet and get down to our great events awaiting you for September.

Itís a stormy start to our films in September with Into The Storm (12A) where storm trackers, thrill-seeks and the everyday townspeople document an unpredicted onslaught of tornados touching down in the town of Silverton. On screen from Friday 5th September with amazing special effects that will blow you out of your seats!

From Friday 12th September we see Scarlett Johansson come together with Morgan Freeman in Lucy (15). All Lucy had to do was deliver a mysterious briefcase, but she is captured and turned into a drug mule for a new and powerful synthetic drug. When the bag she is carrying inside her stomach leaks, Lucy's body undergoes unimaginable changes that unlock her mind's full potential. With her new-found powers, Lucy turns into a merciless warrior intent on reaping revenge on her captors.

We welcome our first of two special live satellite broadcast in September, the wonderful Madama Butterfly from Sydney Harbour (12A). A spectacular modern retelling of Puccini's heart-rending opera performed on a magnificent water stage suspended over Sydney Harbour. Puccini's hugely popular and deeply moving tale of love, honour and betrayal tells of a Japanese geisha Cio-Cio San's doomed romance with American naval officer Pinkerton. On our screen on Thursday 18th September, tickets are still available from our box office.

Our theatre doors open for the variety show of the year, A Slice of Suffolk on our stage on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th September. A true celebration of Suffolk variety, in aid of the BBC Suffolk family carers appeal. Join BBC Radio Suffolk presenters and the cream of Suffolk talent, in a rural romp of Suffolk squit, in support of a ruddy good cause! Limited tickets are still available from our box office.

As a special one-off we have brought back those cheeky minions for a Centenary treat. Saturday 27th September will become Despicable Me Day (U). It will be minion madness at Leiston Film Theatre, as we present Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 on the BIG screen in eye-popping 3D, with all seats priced at only £1.00 (100 pennies for 100 years!) per film, a truly great family treat!

This is then followed by our second live satellite broadcast the outstanding Billy Elliot The Musical LIVE (12A) screening on Sunday 28th September. Billy Elliot the Musical has been dazzling Londonís theatre goers since 2005 and has gone on to captivate audiences around the world. Now, this multi-award winning musical is set to bring cinema-goers to their feet, when the global stage phenomenon is broadcast live from the West End to cinemas across the UK and around the world.

After that busy week of shows and great centenary events our September comes to a close with a thought provoking film entitled If I Stay (12A) from Monday 29th September. Life changes in an instant for young Mia Hall after a car accident puts her in a coma. During an out-of-body experience, caught between life and death for one revealing day, Mia has only one decision left, which will not only decide her future but her ultimate fate.

A sneak peak into October will reveal birthday plans for everyone, as not only does Leiston Film Theatre celebrate its 100th anniversary of the doors first opening on 27th October 1914 but our very own Cheeky Chimp will be celebrating his 1st birthday on 26th October and is inviting 100 children from his Cheeky Club for a birthday party of his very own.
