December Film Theatre News

Dec 2012

Well I think we can safely say that we celebrated our 98th anniversary in style, with over 1,600 eager cinema-goers visiting us to enjoy Skyfall from its UK release date and smashing our box office record in the process! Huge thanks to all those who chose to watch 007 at Leiston Film Theatre and thanks too for all the wonderful compliments about our venue and the new Dolby 7.1 surround sound. One customer said "the best cinema we have been to for years."

And so to December and we end 2012 with another 'unmissable' film showing at Leiston Film Theatre from its UK release date - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (12A), which is on screen from Thursday 13th December and throughout the festive period. A curious Hobbit journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug. Their journey will take them through treacherous lands, swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Presented in amazing Dolby 3D and in digital 2D on Monday's 17th and 24th December. Seats may be booked in advance on 01728 830549 or online at: www.leistonfilmtheatre.co.uk

And the family fun continues after Christmas, with matinee only performances of the terrific Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (U), which bursts on to our screen in 3D and 2D from Friday 28th December. In this latest instalement, Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover - a traveling circus, which they reinvent - Madagascar style.

The next Bright Sparks pantomime, Cinderella (10th-13th January) has proved so popular, with most perfrmances almost sold out, that we have added an additional performance on the evening of Thursday 10th January. At the time of writing this, there are only a handful of tickets remaining for the other performances, which is incredible and means that Cinderella will play to over 1,800 panto-fans. So, if you're struggling for that last minute Chistmas gift, or simply want to be part of what is one of the very best 'am-dram' panto's in Suffolk, grab your tickets while you can on 01728 830549 or online at: www.leistonfilmtheatre.co.uk before it's too late.

I'm really pleased to announce that the students of Alde Valley School will be making their debut appearance at the Film Theatre in February 2013, with their school musical production of Back to the 80's. Performances are planned for Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th February, with tickets now available from our box office and website. Their previous productions always play to packed houses, so make sure you grab your tickets nice and early, to enjoy what is sure to be a terrific show.

2013 promises another great year, with films including Great Expectations, The Great Gatsby, Les Miserables and Lincoln all showing at Leiston Film Theatre in the New Year. For our very latest programme information, visit our website at: www.leistonfilmtheatre.co.uk

I'd like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all those who have supported us in 2012 and everyone at Leiston Film Theatre wish you all a very Merry Christmas and we look for ward to welcoming you to our superb venue over the festive period.

Wayne Burns.
