Have a ball at the Bright Sparks panto!

Oct 2012

Leiston’s hugely popular amateur dramatics theatre group, Bright Sparks, will be having a ball in panto-land, with their next fun-filled traditional family pantomime, Cinderella, which appears live on stage at the Leiston Film Theatre on Friday 11th, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th January.

This is the 8th jointly produced pantomime between Wayne Burns, for Leiston Film Theatre and Bright Sparks and follows the enormous success of previous pantos including Goldilocks and the Three Bears (2001), Cinderella (2003), Red Riding Hood (2005), Aladdin (2007), Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (2009) and Treasure Island (2011), Jack and he Beanstalk (2012) and the 40 strong cast and crew are almost ready to raise the curtain on one of the most beloved pantomimes of them all.

Everybody knows the timeless tale of Cinderella, the young girl who was bullied by her wicked Stepmother and hideous Ugly Sisters and made to do all the household chores and sleep on the floor. Befriended by her best friend Buttons and granted a magical wish by the Fairy Godmother, Cinderella’s beauty was captured by the handsome Prince Charming, who together with his valet Dandini, searched the village for the owner of a lost silver slipper, whom he intends to find and marry.

The story unfolds in the pantoland village of Flat-Stoney-Broke and promises to deliver another huge helping of traditional family panto fun, with stunning scenery, colourful characters, enchanting effects, plus the hairiest gorilla in pantoland! What’s a gorilla got to do with the story of Cinderella? There really is only one way to find out – grab your tickets and be part of the panto fun!

Bright Sparks are renowned for their ‘big budget’ amateur pantomimes, humorous scripts, colourful sets and lavish costumes and this production is no exception. With an age range from 5 to 80 years young, the group rehearse twice weekly to ensure a highly polished performance for each of their four shows, which always play to packed houses. This year’s production also features the return of the very talented youngsters from the Erin Lea Murphy School of Dance.

Film Theatre manager and pantomime director, Wayne Burns, can’t wait to bring this beloved story to the stage. “Ticket sales are already way ahead of last year’s sell-out panto run and I know that the cast can’t wait to take to the stage and entertain all those who support their efforts. We are also very grateful to our pantomime sponsors Vinci Facilities, Flick and Son and EDF Energy for their support in enabling the hugely talented Tom Horton to return as our musical director.” he said.

Cinderella will be appearing at Leiston Film Theatre on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th January at 7.30pm, with matinee performances on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th January at 2.30pm. Tickets are now available, priced £11.00 for adults, £10.00 for children and £9.00 for OAP’s and can be purchased from the Leiston Film Theatre box office on 01728 830549 or on-line by clicking here. Early booking is definitely advised.
