March Film Theatre News

Feb 2012

We have a great programme of incredible films in March, starting with Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (12A), starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock. Based on the acclaimed novel, the film follows a young boy, struggling to come to terms with his father's death in the 9/11 tragedy. After finding a mysterious key that belonged to him, he sets out on a journey to find the lock it opens; one that takes into the lives of various New Yorkers who all have different stories of survival.

Daniel Radcliffe has well and truly put Harry Potter behind him, as he stars in the terrifying big screen adaptation of The Woman in Black (12A), from Friday 9th March. The film tells of a young solicitor, who travels to a remote village to clear up the affairs of a recently deceased woman who lived in a remote house. When he arrives, he finds that the house is home to a vengeful ghost of a scorned woman, who is terrorizing the locals. Bring someone to hold on to, or a cushion to hide behind!

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (12A) is a terrific comedy/drama, staring Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith, as British retirees, who travel to India to take up residence in what they believe, is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than its advertisements, the Marigold Hotel and its surroundings nevertheless slowly begin to charm in unexpected ways. On screen from Friday 16th March, with matinee's on Sunday 18th and Wednesday 21st March at 3.00pm.

Many are saying that George Clooney puts in the performance of his career in the critically acclaimed The Descendants (15) from Friday 23rd March. With his wife on life support after a boating accident, a Hawaiian land baron takes his daughters on a trip from Oahu to Kauai to confront the young real estate broker, who was having an affair with his wife before her misfortune. Matinee's on Sunday 25th nod Wednesday 28th March.

Looking ahead, our Easter programme promises plenty of family films, including The Muppets (U), which is showing from Saturday 31st March, plus the spectacular fantasy 3D action flick, John Carter (12A), which also plays from Friday 30th March and can be enjoyed in 2D on Monday 2nd April.

We are especially looking forward to the return of the amazing Dayglo Puppet Fantasia with their new glow-in-the-dark puppet show on Wednesday 4th April at 11.30am.
