October Film Theatre News

Sep 2011

October presents a mixed package of big screen entertainment, including the return of matinee madness and 2-for-1 films during the October half term school holidays. Read on for full details.

The critically acclaimed Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (15) is showing nightly from Friday 7th October, with matinees on Sunday 9th and Wednesday 12th October. After a fiasco of a covert operation, a British Intelligence spymaster and his right-hand man are sacked. Then shocking but persuasive information that a Soviet mole has penetrated to the heart of the secret service prompts Whitehall to task one of them with spying on spies. Not to be missed.

Apollo 18 (15) puts you on the edge-of-your-seat as you watch decades-old found footage from NASA's abandoned Apollo 18 mission, where two American astronauts were sent on a secret expedition to the moon, only to discover that they are not alone!

October half term is packed full of films to keep everyone amused, plus we have another helping of Magic, Mess and Mayhem on the morning of Wednesday 26th October at 11.30am. 60 minutes of magic, competitions and buckets of family fun will only cost 2.95 if you buy your tickets early - be warned, tickets increase to 3.95 from 16th October and all proceeds will be donated to Leiston Film Theatre Support Club.

Our films for half term include the hilarious return of Rowan Atkinson in Johnny English Reborn (PG), from Friday 21st October, in which the accidental secret agent must stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos. Armed with the latest in hi-tech gadgets, he unravels a web of conspiracy that runs throughout the KGB, CIA and even MI-7.

Our half term matinees include Horrid Henry: The Movie (U) and The Smurfs (U), both showing in digital 3D and 2D for 3 days only. Better still, if you have one of our 2-for-1 vouchers, you'll be able to enjoy these films for less! The 2-for-1 vouchers are available from our box office (while stocks last), or find us on Facebook before 21st October and print your own voucher.

Half term comes to close with the wonderful family film Dolphin Tale (U), which is inspired by the true story of an injured dolphin and its special relationship with a boy, who encourages others to help his aquatic friend to swim again. Presented in 3D and 2D. I cannot recommend this film highly enough for a real 'must-see' family trip to the flicks.

For many years Robert Burns has carefully compiled a collection of vintage photographs of old Aldeburgh. Entitled 'The Burns Collection', by the local press, the vast compilation includes pictures of the Aldeburgh floods, Wartime bombings, Aldeburgh Lifeboats and the Aldeburgh Railway, amongst umpteen other subjects of local interest. By popular demand and kind permission of Mr. Burns, the first instalment of these photographs will be revisited up on our big screen in a special programme at the Film Theatre on Wednesday 16th November at 7.30pm. Tickets are now available from our box office (Tel: 01728 830549), priced 7.50 for club members (have you joined yet?) and 8.50 for non-members, with all proceeds being donated to our hard working Film Theatre Support Club. Early booking is definitely advised, as the first showing in 2008 was sold out very quickly.
