August Film Theatre News

Aug 2011

The summer has truly begun at Leiston Film Theatre and August is jammed packed with terrific family films, including the return of the much loved Panda, Po, in Kung Fu Panda 2 (PG), showing in 3D and 2D. Po the Panda is living his dream as The Dragon Warrior, protecting the Valley of Peace, alongside his fellow kung-fu masters, The Furious Five. But Po's new life of awesomeness is threatened by the emergence of a formidable villain, who plans to use a secret, unstoppable weapon to conquer China and kung-fu. Ideal family viewing for a rainy afternoon perhaps!

We also see the return of Shia LaBeouf, starring in the effects-laden Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon (12A), showing in 3D & 2D. The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft, hidden on the moon and must race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets, which could ultimately decide the fate in the Transformers final battle. Early evening shows only.

Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake provide some light 'grown-up' humour in Bad Teacher (15). An hilarious comedy centred around an scandalously crude and foul-mouthed, junior high teacher who, after being dumped by her sugar daddy, sets her sights on a male colleague and will do absolutely anything to woo his affections.

Pixar and Disney make a big impact on the big screen this summer with the eagerly awaited Cars 2 (PG), showing in 3D and 2D. Star race car Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater leave Radiator Springs and head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own - international espionage! Bundles of fun, as you would expect from the Pixar studio makes this a 'must-see' family treat for August.

The surprise box office hit Bridesmaids (15) shows for 3 days only from 16th August. A maid of honour leads her best friend and a group of colourful bridesmaids on a wild ride down the road to matrimony. Though lovelorn and broke, the chief bridesmaid bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals and with one chance to get it perfect, she'll show the Bride just how far you'll go for someone you love

I can't wait to see Jim Carrey back in cinemas with his new family comedy Mr. Popper's Penguins (PG), which sees the life of a businessman change after he inherits six adorable but clever penguins. As he transforms his apartment into a winter wonderland, his professional side starts to hilariously unravel. The penguins are so funny!

Live show fans can look forward to The Wild Oats on Wednesday 21st September. Following their successful reunion concert at the Film Theatre in 2010, The Wild Oats make a welcome return, by popular demand, for another evening of nostalgic entertainment. All in aid of Leiston Film Theatre Support Club and with only a handful of tickets remaining, it looks like another sell-out performance. Limited tickets, priced 12.50 are available by contacting the box office on 01728 830549, or online by clicking here.

We have so much more happening at Leiston Film Theatre this summer, so why not take a look around our website and see what's on.
