Leiston's hugely popular amateur dramatics group Bright Sparks are making final preparations to sell sail on a magical voyage to panto-land, with their next fun-filled traditional family pantomime, Treasure Island, which appears live on stage at the Leiston Film Theatre on Thursday 6th, Friday 7th and Saturday 8th January.

This is the 6th jointly produced pantomime between Wayne Burns, for Leiston Film Theatre and Bright Sparks and follows the enormous success of previous panto's including Goldilocks and the Three Bears (2001), Cinderella (2003), Red Riding Hood (2005), Aladdin (2007) and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (2009) and the 40 strong cast and crew are almost ready to raise the anchor and hoist the sails for what looks set to be their most ambitious panto yet.

Treasure Island is set to take you on a quest for booty and pirate plunder, as young Jim Hawkins and the motley crew of The Golden Behind go in search for buried treasure, only to find that evil Long John Silver and his band of pirates have mutiny on their minds and intend to keep the treasure all for themselves!

In true Bright Sparks tradition, the tale will see many twists and turns and numerous imaginative characters, including Sam 'n' Ella - the ship idiots, Dame Mandy Lifeboats - the ship cook and Paxo the naughty parrot! There's buried treasure to find, but who will get to it first, what will happen along the way and who will walk the plank?

Bright Sparks are renowned for their 'big budget' amateur pantomimes, humorous scripts, colourful sets and lavish costumes and this production is no exception. With an age range from 5 to 80 years young, the group rehearse twice weekly to ensure a highly polished performance for each of their four shows, which always play to packed houses. This year's production also sees the return of one of the UK's most popular organists, Tom Horton, who will enhance the shows by providing the musical accompaniment.

Treasured Island Director and Film Theatre manager, Wayne Burns, is looking forward to bringing this pantomime to the stage. "A production of this scale takes twelve months to produce and the dedication that is involved in creating one of these beloved pantomimes is immense. We hope that our audiences will enjoy their next Bright Sparks experience in panto-land, as much as we have enjoyed producing the show itself." he said.

So, grab your sea legs and climb aboard for lots of fun, laughter and audience participation and show your support for the hard work of all involved in bringing this show to the stage.

Treasure Island will be presented at Leiston Film Theatre on Thursday 6th January, Friday 7th January at 7.30pm and Saturday 8th January 2011 at 3.00pm and 7.20pm. Tickets are now available, priced 10.50 for adults, 8.50 for children and 9.50 for OAP's and can be purchased from the Leiston Film Theatre box office on 01728 830549 or by clicking here.
