October Film Theatre News

Sep 2010

After a great September of sell-out live shows and films and the successful launch of our new digital projector and Dolby 3D, we are looking forward to a jam-packed October. We would like to thank everyone for their support over the last few months and hope that you have enjoyed the introduction of the new 3D cinema experience and amazing picture quality now offered with our new digital 2D screenings.

We are throwing our doors open on Saturday 9th October, between 10am and 1pm, for a Coffee Morning, Poster Sale and Open Day, with all proceeds being donated to our hard working Film Theatre Support Club. The morning also offers a rare opportunity to visit our projection booth to see what goes on behind those portholes and see our new digital 3D projector. These tours will also include a look behind the screen and backstage and cost 1.00 per person. Admission to the coffee morning is FREE and we look forward to seeing you there.

October's films start with Drew Barrymore and Justin Long starring in the romantic comedy Going the Distance (15) showing from Friday 1st October. Erin and Garrett enjoy a summer fling but soon realise how empty their lives are without each other after Erin heads home to San Francisco, leaving Garrett stuck in New York. With the odds stacked against them can they make their unlikely relationship go the distance?

The smash-hit family animated film Despicable Me (U), shows in eye-popping 3D during the half term holidays, featuring the vocal talents of Steve Carell, Russell Brand and Julie Andrews. Gru wants to be the world's top super villain and surrounds himself by his army of hilarious 'minions' in his happy suburban neighbourhood, where he is planning the crime of the century - he is going to steal the moon! That is until he becomes a dad to three little orphans named Margo, Edith and Agnes. Terrific 3D family fun for the school holidays and don't forget to ask for your 3D family saver ticket and you could save up to 4.00 off our normal 3D admission prices!

We are very excited about the 3D fantasy adventure Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole 3D (PG) which is showing from Friday 29th October. Soren, a brave young barn owl, is left orphaned and is taken in by the evil owls (Pure Ones) of St. Aggie's orphanage, where they are creating their own army to take over the owl kingdom. Soren must travel through the mists of Ga'hoole in search for the legendary winged warriors to save the kingdom, but will he find them and will it be in time? The 3D animation is superb and will delight film fans of all ages - a real 3D treat and highly recommended.

Our live shows kicked started again last month and the immense success of our Wild Oats concert has certainly left everyone wanting more. This month we are pleased to welcome to our stage two great nights of pure entertainment. Firstly, in aid of the Bible Society, a Grand Charity Varity Show on Wednesday 13th October. The night is packed full of great variety from singing and dancing, with a slice of comedy thrown in for good measure. Also appearing on our stage on Sunday 24th October, is a toe tapping, high energy dance extravaganza, featuring The Erin Lea Murphy School of Dance and the Mary Kollack Dancers from Germany in Dance Exchange. We are presenting two separate performances at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, with tickets now available from our box office, priced 10.50 and 8.50. Early booking is definitely recommended.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to be screening Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 3D from Friday 15th November, with seats bookable in advance from Monday 1st November. We will also be presenting the farewell performance by Ollie Austin on Saturday 20th November and you are requested to climb aboard when the fun-filled family Bright Sparks pantomime of Treasure Island sets sail in the New Year.
