Jade lands the perfect panto part!

Oct 2013

15 year old Jade Brewer from Leiston has landed herself the starring role in the next Bright Sparks family pantomime, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which appears live on stage at Leiston Film Theatre between the 16th and 19th January 2014. Jade was selected to star as Dorothy after impressing the producers at auditions held recently and has already thrown herself into the part.

Jade said “I love being part of this pantomime and rehearsals are going really well. I can’t wait to go over the rainbow. I just hope Toto behaves on stage!”

2014 is a very special year at Leiston Film Theatre, as the venue celebrates its magnificent centenary, with an ambitious programme of 100 special events and promotions, to commemorate 100 amazing years of entertainment at Suffolk’s oldest purpose built cinema.

To launch the year long celebrations, Bright Sparks invite panto fans to enjoy their biggest pantomime ever and join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, as they travel along the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, to meet The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Along the way, they encounter Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, who protects them from the Wicked Witch of the West, who will do anything to get her hands on the ruby slippers!

Packed to the panto-brim with all your favourite ‘sing-a-long’ songs, stunning scenery, colourful costumes, enormous effects and huge helpings of traditional family fun and laughter, it’s going to be a very special pantomime that you simply won’t want to miss!

In 2013, Bright Sparks’ sell-out run of Cinderella played to over 2,100 eager panto-goers and over 1000 tickets have already been sold for their latest outing on the Leiston Film Theatre stage, with tickets now limited for some performances. The pantomime also features the musical talents of Tom Horton and the talented youngsters from the Erin-Lea Murphy School of Dance.

Pantomime director and Film Theatre manager, Wayne Burns, is looking forward to providing another successful pantomime. “This is a big show to produce. It has a cyclone, a melting Witch and if that wasn’t enough, we’ve got Munchkins and a dog to contend with also! With ticket sales way ahead of last year, it looks as if lots of families will be receiving pantomime tickets for Christmas again this year” he said.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: The Pantomime will be appearing at Leiston Film Theatre on Thursday 16th, Friday 17th and Saturday 18th January at 7.30pm, with two matinee performances on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January at 2.30pm. Tickets are now available, priced £12.00, £11.00 and £10.00 and can be purchased from the Leiston Film Theatre box office on 01728 830549 or on-line by clicking here.
